FAQs

Do you only invest in BARMM?

While BARMM is a political designation, we choose to define Bangsamoro with the cultural and historical intent of the word - the nation of Moros or Filipino muslims. As a result, while most of the data will cite the statistics of BARMM, we may also include in our investment areas places such as Southern Palawan and other jurisdictions in Muslim Mindanao that did not choose to be part of the autonomous region during the 2019 referendum.

What if I want to invest in the entire country of the Philippines?

We would be thrilled to facilitate an introduction to the Alab Impact Fund, which is a US impact vehicle that focuses on the Philippines. It invests in companies that are "finance first" as opposed to SBV which is "impact first".

What is impact investing?

Impact Investment is a new mode of deploying capital in businesses whose core product of service offers a financial return and concurrently generates positive social and/or environmental impact in the course of their activities.

It's not just about making more money, it's about making your money more:

  • More aligned with your values

  • More helpful to our communities

What is islamic finance?

Islamic finance, or Sharia-compliant finance, is based on ethical principles derived from Islamic law, prohibiting interest , and encouraging profit-sharing and risk-sharing, while avoiding investments in prohibited activities (e.g., alcohol or gambling). Instead of fixed interest, Islamic finance relies on profit-sharing arrangements where investors and businesses share in the profits and losses of a venture. It emphasizes ethical and social responsibility, aiming to contribute to the well-being of society beyond purely financial returns.

What is the minimum investment and when will I get a return?

The minimum investment is USD 250,000 with a chance to exit after 7 years at a projected 10% IRR or 2x your money. However, this is a high-risk proposition. Please book a call with us and then obtain independent legal, tax, and financial advice.

How do I apply for funding as a startup?

SBV is always looking for good opportunities for impact and profit in Bangsamoro. However, we are not taking applications at this time as our portfolio is fully earmarked.
